BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE – “Seeking New Location”

In the last two years the Ailsa Craig & Area Food Bank has made several adjustments to the site plan for a new Food Bank on Main Street bringing the board of directors to a decision that the current property no longer fits our vision for the future. We want to recognize the Municipality of North Middlesex and Middlesex County for their input on the project to date. Full details of the process can be viewed on our website at www.ailsacraigareafoodbank.org

We appreciate the enormous support of the community members throughout our service area who have continued to make donations to allow the Foodbank to operate normally during this period.

It is our duty and responsibility, as a board, to ensure that funds raised for the project through the generous support of so many throughout our service area are used to their maximum potential and that the resulting facility would address the needs of the communities of our service area for many years to come. The need to further shrink our footprint to resolve the parking issue brought the board to a time of decision. Because of this we have arrived at the difficult decision to place our property on Main Street on the market and look for new options. The funds for the initial purchase of property came from one donor. The donor was consulted and agrees that this is the best course of action for the food bank.

Food banks across Canada are growing to meet a variety of social supports required. Our hope was to ensure our plans would allow this and also room to expand supports as needed in the future.

The Board is disappointed to have to make this decision; however we have a responsibility to use donated funds wisely. This was a difficult decision, but we trust we can continue the project with the same incredible support we have found so far. It remains our goal to find a new location that provides the space required to serve the area most effectively.

With sincere thanks,

The Board of Directors of the Ailsa Craig & Area Food Bank & Thrift Store

Unfortunate decision. Doesn't look like you got much help from municipality on this one. How many designated parking spaces does any business in town have? Example church or grocery store.
